Hey, I know we’ve been neglecting you guys lately. Real posts are coming — several pictorials in the works. Instead gonna mention a few things about my shopping trip today.

Loblaws on Queen’s Quay had a huge bounty of fresh mushrooms today! Morels, which I’d never seen there before — porcini and maitake were the other varieties I remember. This was in addition to their normal selection of white, cremini, oyster, and portobello mushrooms. The morels were pretty tasty — from a company in BC — made some fresh pasta and tossed it and the morels in a little olive oil. In hindsight though they really called out for butter instead.

Blackstone Organics: after trying to check their website (gone), trying to call them (went to voice mail), and then hearing that their voicemail was full, I began to fear the worst. But visiting in person found them alive and well. Noticed some frozen meat pies with cute pastry designs on them, but that wasn’t what I was there for.

Globe Bistro has an excellent cocktail called “The Toronto” — Cumbrae’s-bacon-infused whisky, maple syrup, and a whisky-soaked cherry. It wasn’t really what I was craving, given the warm patio weather, but I gotta hand it to them — it was GOOD. Smokey start that gave way to a smooth, smooth finish with a distinct maple note. Not too sweet, very drinkable. Definite reorder.

That’s all for today.
