Unbeknownst to me, The Wine Bar shut down for gold-medal Sunday. So, wandering around the corner brought us to Lucien’s doorstep instead. With its cred, I don’t hear about this restaurant very often. Actually, to the point where this wasn’t even on my radar.
Despite eyebrow-raising prices on the menu outside, the dishes seemed interesting enough. [...]

There’s been a National Pig Day on March 1st in the US since 1972, but apparently (as of this year) Prince Edward County has now decided to make it International Pig Day, “extending it into a month-long appreciation of pigs, pork and the people who raise them.” Though I only recently learned of this holiday [...]

The Olympics are on and it dawns on me that I still haven’t finished my write-up of all the places I hit on my Vancouver trip… back in the fall. Well, consider this my effort to get caught up. Hopefully, the roundup will do someone some use. Or maybe you’ll feel like going to Vancouver [...]

My dining companions ran the gamut of reactions when I suggested we go for lunch at Gale’s Snack Bar. You see, Gale’s has been open for years (looks it too), and is located away from the main-and-trendy Queen St. East strip. I didn’t know it at the time, but Gale’s had been written up and [...]

With its frigid fingers curled around the city, Winter has arrived (returned?) in an icy exhalation. The sidewalks are dusted with a glittering veil that is quickly obliterated by pedestrians treading upon it. There’s no casual idling outside today. Everyone walks at a fast clip in the fading light, heading home to seek refuge from [...]

I mourned the ending of a fine dining era last June, and had a lovely tasting menu to commemorate its passing. However, since Splendido’s rebirth over the summer of 2009, I’ve returned several times and found that the spirit still lives on, though the menu has changed. Food and service are still stellar, and judging [...]

Izakaya is huge in Vancouver for whatever reason. With so many options to choose from, we decided upon Kingyo for this trip. Sitting at the bar and leisurely ordering was a great way to spend an evening with friends. Not to mention tasty!

So I had this whole Winterlicious rant for today, but I apparently have more to say than I thought I originally did. Which means that I’m just going to do the update post I had in the works instead.
Restaurant names head to the original post I made about it.

I visited Duggan’s Brewery in December while it was still in soft-launch mode, but a quick check via a phone call places the official launch date on the 22nd of January. Though the decor is a little sparse, our group finds the food more than just-palatable, making this a place to earmark for those caught [...]

While I’ve covered most of my Seattle trip, I’m still catching up on the Vancouver portion of it. The day we arrived, it was cold and rainy (surprise!), and a hot steaming bowl of ramen at Motomachi Shokudo was a perfect way to start off our visit.
