Might as well wrap up my Parkdale posts-in-limbo with Grand Electric. Chef Colin Tooke and Ian McGrenaghan’s place has been on fire since it opened with 2-hour waits. Reminiscent of Big Star in Chicago (these ex-Black Hoof kids went and did some recon there, I hear), they’ve brought back that casual vibe and added pulsing music and sprinkled it with that Hoof magic for lines out the door. And of course, some really great tacos.

Of them all, the al pastor and fish tacos are favourites. Delicious tuna ceviche on a crunchy tostada also hit those tasty notes. The Miami ribs are loved by many, but I ignore it all in favour of the pile of delicious onions that top them. Loved the tunes cranking from the speakers, but if you don’t like things loud – or louder – you may be out of luck. I heard a rumour that they’re opening up a second floor now – much needed if true!
